A long time ago,
Even before man took flight,
A creature,
With wings,
Had discovered the advantage
Of aerial attack.
This creature
With claws,
A Peregrine Falcon, it was called,
Had made the bombing run,
Against a small rodent.
Centuries have gone by,
Man had gained intelligence,
He had an idea,
To break up Prussian Ranks,
He built a balloon,
And armed it
With rifles
When Napoleon’s Army marched in,
The balloon raked the enemy ranks
And Napoleon
Didn’t even flinch.
A century has passed.
Factories were set up
Set up to build flying machines
Machines that flew
And killed.
A large twin-engined bomber,
Looking like a human manifestation
Of an ancient flying raptor
Was prepared to lay to waste
A German trench.
Suddenly,
A Fokker appeared,
The entire plane
In blood red.
The plane circled the giant bomber,
With the blue and white roundels
And sent it crashing to Earth
In flames.
Only decades had passed
When several fast machines
Marked with their distinctive “Swastikas”
Had aimed their bombs
At a British household.
They thought their speed was enough,
But out swooped from the sky,
The mighty Aegis of Zeus,
The Thunderbolt.
Eight guns blazing
Tore the Nazi bombers
To shreds.
It was in the heat of June,
And in the mists of the Cold War.
A lone plane,
Powered by a new-fangled jet
Had made swoops
Against the North Korean lines.
After firing its deadly load of rockets
It had left
As fast as its jet could take it.
The Berlin Wall
Had been standing
For years.
At a nearby airbase
Four massive B-1Bs
Were being armed
With their super-deadly weapons.
Their crews
Constantly on the call
The Call to Arms
Ready to retaliate
In revenge.
“All TIE Bombers Report!”
CP Dervin’s voice rang through
The Stalwart’s hangar.
Six craft
Bombers led by LT RayCav,
Fighters led by LT Idianian,
Were already in flight.
Three heavy space bombs
Slammed into a Mon Cal’s hull
And had turned the great ship’s hull
Into a blazing hulk.
It is hard to imagine,
That this was an accumulation,
Of a single hawk
Swooping down,
On a small rodent,
In a planet far off away.
